Square Pair is a Puzzle Platformer where you need to press buttons to open doors by controlling two squares, but you can disconnect the little square and control it independently. You´re also able to jump when you´re alone, and you can shoot enemies if you´re joined together.

This game was created in 48 hours for the GMTK Game Jam 2021. The Theme was “Joined together”.

How to Play:

  • Your goal is to OPEN ALL THE DOORS.
  • You do that by PRESSING THE BUTTON in the same colour as the door.
  • Disconnect the little square by pressing the space bar.
  • You can jump if you´re alone, and shoot if you´re joined together.

 Controls:

  • A / D – Move left and right
  • Space bar – Disconnect the little square
  • W – Jump if you control the little square
  • F – Shoot if you´re joined together.

Very interesting concept, I like that when the squares are joined together they are "stronger" in a way. With some polish and a bigger exploration of the mechanic this could be a great little puzzle game :)

Thanks!

Really fun game but I have some feedback.

The cube is always getting stuck in the wall and its kinda ragey.

The movement is very slippery. Use Getaxisraw instead of Getaxis next time.

Maybe make it that the characters have a bit more movement, even if it is just some squash and stretch.

Yeah thats about it. Other than that great game! And good puzzles

Thanks a lot! I didn´t know about GetAxisRaw but i´ll use it next time. Do you mean with "stuck in the wall" that when the wall is right and you go to the right it´s kind of in the wall? Because i have no idea how to fix that.

About the squash and stretch thing: I didn´t have time to make any animations but i´ll definetly use some pixel art and walking animations next time. :)

How long have you been using unity?

Not for a very long time. Like one or two monts. :)

ahh that makes sense, ive been doing it for 1 year

Okay. DO you maybe know how to fix the wall issue?

I know A LOT about unity

Definitely a well made game. Appreciate the concept of splitting. Good job

Thanks :)

although the game's pretty bare-bones, i appreciate the idea of there being a larger character alongside a smaller one but with more freedom of movement. it has potential :)

Thanks a lot for the feedback!

This is good idea. I want to have a save point and a profound level.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! What do you mean with "profound"?

A more intelligent puzzle.

I get it, the puzzles are really easy, but i tried to make it not too hard so everyone can enjoy it. :)
